How to drop your mtb - Tutorials and Drills

Drops are one of the most misunderstood MTB skills – especially for adults.

There's a LOT more to them than just “going fast and pulling up.” (In fact, that’s often what leads to crashes.)

This course gives you the step-by-step method to learn drops safely, confidently, and at your own pace – even if you're cautious, short, riding an e-MTB, or returning from injury.

You’ll build a reliable, confident drop autopilot for all kinds of terrain – without guesswork, pressure, or risky trial-and-error.

Drops FAQ:

Answers to some of the most common questions we got on drops:

What sets this course apart from in-person clinics?

The thing is:

Every drop is different and you need to respond instinctively, in the moment. That kind of knowledge is NOT something you can master in a few days, let alone in just a few hours...

In a one-day clinic, you might understand the basic principles of dropping and you may be able to catch some air on smaller drops, but you won’t be able to develop the ability to intuitively execute different drop techniques. This, however, is essential to be able to jump different drop shapes and to safely increase the height of your drops.

Unlike one-day clinics, this course offers over 80 step-by-step skill drills and in-depth lessons that you can access 24/7. It includes personalized feedback and allows you to learn at your own pace, ensuring thorough understanding and skill development.

What most riders lack is a deep understanding of how factors like approach speed, drop shape, landing angle, gap distance, and the chosen drop technique interact. And more importantly, how to adapt to these variables with the right technique, instinctively.

And that's exactly why we developed this course 😍

With consistent, structured practice (and our guidance as your personal coaches), you’ll internalize the right techniques and be able to execute them automatically in any situation.

You’ll roll up to drops, make the right call, and ride them with ease and confidence, without that nagging feeling of doubt.

What kind of rider is this course for?

This course is designed for adult riders of all levels who want to learn drops with minimal risk.

It’s grounded in neuroscience, years of full-time coaching experience, personal experimentation, and detailed video analysis. (Yes, that applies to all our courses, but for this one, we’ve raised the bar even higher!)

Our previous (German) drops course was already a success, helping hundreds of riders safely jump drops. But we wanted MORE.

So, we took it offline for over a year, completely redesigned it to make it even safer, more intuitive, and easier to follow - and now also launched it in English.

What we always missed in other drop courses was: clear guidelines on how factors like speed, drop shape, landing angle, distance to landing, bike geometry and drop techniques interrelate. This course bridges that gap.

With practice (and us as your personal coaches), you’ll master safe drop techniques and be able to apply them instinctively in any situation.

After completing this course, you'll be able to approach and "send" drops with ease and confidence. 🚀😍

I'm a fearful rider, is this course for me?

Yes, absolutely! This course prioritizes your safety and is specifically designed to help cautious adults master complex, high-risk techniques.

Our approach?

Your body and brain learn exactly the way they need to, developing the coordination and technique required safely and playfully. This way, you’ll be able to respond flexibly and confidently to a variety of drop forms, heights, and your approach speed.

And when it comes to drops, it's this flexibility that marks the difference between fear and confidence! đŸ’Ș

How does the personal feedback work?

Personalized feedback is a standout feature of this course, ensuring your progress is guided and mistakes are corrected early. Here’s how it works:

  • What’s Included: The course provides 3 professional feedback loops. For each loop, you can send up to 4 videos, with a maximum length of 40 seconds per video. These videos should focus on up to 2 lessons or techniques you’re currently practicing. Then you'll get personal video feedback and have 2 weeks to send in 2 follow-up videos. That closes the feedback loop. You have a total of 3 of these loops included in the course.

  • What Makes It Personal: Roxy, your coach and an experienced professional trusted by Olympians and riders (and even other coaches) worldwide, will personally analyze your videos. The feedback is tailored to your specific needs, taking into account factors like your height, bike type, riding background, and physical abilities.

  • What You’ll Receive: You’ll get detailed, split-screen video feedback with voiceovers. This feedback will identify the root causes of your errors, rather than just addressing the symptoms. Roxy will also provide clear and actionable coaching cues, along with tailored mental tools and physical drills to help you correct these errors at their source.

  • Why It’s Effective: Many riders struggle with “consequential errors” because they’re unknowingly practicing movements that reinforce bad habits. Personalized feedback ensures that you’re practicing the right things, making your progress faster, more effective, and safer.

  • How It’s Delivered: Feedback is quick and efficient. Once you send your videos via WhatsApp or email, Roxy will review them and respond within 24 hours (Saturday to Wednesday). This ensures you can immediately apply corrections and keep building your skills without delay.

This one-on-one coaching element is like having a personal coach in your pocket, helping you overcome challenges, refine your techniques, and make steady, confident progress toward mastering drops.

I struggle to gauge speed for drops—will I learn that here?

Absolutely!

One thing we’ve always found lacking in other drop courses is a clear understanding of how approach speed, drop shape, landing slope, distance to the landing, and the chosen drop technique all interact. That's why we developed this course!

Every drop is unique—and you need to react intuitively in the moment. This isn’t something you simply master in a few hours, but with a brain-friendly, age-appropriate methodology (which you’ll find in this course) and regular practice, it’s absolutely achievable!

I don't have any airtime experience, can I still take this course?

Yes, absolutely. This course guides you step by step, safely introducing you to airtime.

Your body and brain will learn in a way that’s tailored to develop the coordination and technique needed to control your bike in the air, safely and playfully.

By the end, you’ll be able to handle any drop shape, height, or approach speed with confidence and flexibility.

However, you should already have substantial mountain biking experience. Riding trails where drops are typically found requires a solid foundation and enough trail experience to feel comfortable.

So this course is designed for intermediate to advanced riders, rather than complete beginners.

Looking to refine your riding foundation first? Then start with our FUNdamentals Course!

What if I don't have access to specific drop features for practice?

The course is structured to start with basic drills that can be practiced on small, flat-to-flat drops, which are often found near your home. As you progress, it encourages finding varied terrains to match the drills, helping you adapt to different drop scenarios.

I tend to lose contact to my pedals (or think I might). Is this addressed in the course?

Absolutely! đŸ™‚â€â†•ïž This course is designed to help you progressively master drops while addressing the root causes of issues like losing your pedals—and other common mistakes and fears.

By the end of the course, you'll not only understand the interplay between approach speed, drop shape, landing angle, gap distance, and chosen drop technique, but you'll also be able to apply this knowledge intuitively—whether you're tackling small trail drops or larger drops in bike parks.

Is there a community or support system available during the course?

Yes, the course offers access to a private community app where you can connect with fellow learners, share experiences, and seek advice, enhancing your learning journey. And of course your coaches Roxy & Berni are also there for you if you have questions!

My question is not listed. What now?

Send us (Roxy & Berni) an email to info@roxybike-coaching.com - and we'll gladly respond within our coaching hours (Saturday - Wednesday 9:00 am - 6:00 pm CET)
